Question by Kaitlyn: Infection on my stretched earlobe? Help!?

So, I was at a 10g for about 3 weeks using acrylic pinchers. I understood the dangers of acrylic jewelry, but I clean everything properly. I use H20 spray and vitamin E oil daily. My right ear is fine with stretching with no problems, as for my left ear, I pushed the pincher in and it was quite sore for a few days. I couldn’t move the jewelry easily but i continuted to clean the area.

Just a few days ago, it started to bleed a little with puss coming out. I left it there for 2 days and continued my cleaning routine. I was worried about the dangers of a blowout so I took it out. It is now “teared” open and really red. (raw).

-Will it close overnight? (I just did it, i need answers NOW)
-When should i put a 12-10g pincher back in?
-Is there anything i can do to help the healing process go faster?

THANK YOU!!!

Best answer:

Answer by ℓάced
Since everybody is different, no one can tell you if your will shrink completely or at all.

You should put metal 10g jewelry in ASAP. Stop using acrylic & the jewelry won’t stick to your ear. Also, cleaning acrylic doesn’t make it sterile, or into a better material. It still sucks for fresh stretches & piercings. If it’s an issue of cost, then you should reconsider stretching all together, because it is not a cheap thing to do right.

Other than not using acrylic to stretch with? Wait more than 3 weeks before stretching larger, and instead of the spray, start doing actual salt soaks. They do a better job at cleaning your piercing than spraying something on them will.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by ohshizclarissa: where do people get acrylic jewelry pendants laser cut?

i see a lot of jewelry pendants on handmade shop sites that look like this

http://a294.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/19/l_437269388c30b965f4a320e83c8bc02d.jpg

I have my own little jewelry shop site, but i dont use acrylic cut designs. but i want to.
these people have their designs laser cut for a decent price because they sell them for 10-15 dollars..
i know of lovebites&bruises. but they charge for your design to be cut.. so where can i get my designs cut for a good price?

Best answer:

Answer by Andrew O
I bet they buy a laser cutter and do it themselves. That’s the only way to get the cost low enough unless you do large job lots to drive the unit cost down.

Question by ?Dawn?: Should I get my tongue piercing redone?

I’d had my tongue pierced for 3 weeks. Yesterday I went to get a new barbell because the original was putting alot of pressure on the bottom of my mouth. The place I got it pierced is over an hour away so I went somewhere closer for the new jewelry.
The piercer there, who has over 10 years experience in piercing and a medical background, looked at it and basically told me the guy that did it f***** it up. It was slanted back real far AND off center. She told me that I would never be able to wear the regular bars. Plus I would always have it clicking on my teeth and the pressure because of how bad the slant was. She didn’t want to tell me what to do but suggested I take it out. If I didn’t want to, she would sell me a new bar or give me an acrylic ball for the bottom. But all that would do is protect my teeth. I would still have the other problems. I really want to get it redone, but I can’t see spending that much money on it. What is your opinion? I had her take it out while there.

Best answer:

Answer by doug c
I have my tongue pierced twice and when it started closing i shoved it back in. It may hurt depending on the person, but it normally isn’t a problem.

How does travel become a part of our everyday lives? What happens when we return home? Do we change, or do we become blind in routine? Can we continue to travel without leaving home?

“There are times when I forget where I am and routine takes over and it doesn’t matter if I’m in Barcelona or Virginia or Pennsylvania or China, because I’m only brushing my teeth, only eating breakfast, only walking. Those are the times when we stop traveling. But you can start again any time you want to just by looking up at the trees, even if you walk past them every day. You can always travel, no matter where you are. It’s not about going to a new place, it’s about seeing something new. ~Travel Blog, Barcelona, January 31, 2007

Best answer:

Answer by Mothore
Although the site in question may not seem reputable. They’re likely not going to steal your money. It’s too easy to buy at wholesale and resell online like this (no accounting for marketability or web design skills).

If you’re looking for a high quality, consistently stocked, and good customer service base in a body jewellery store online; I recommend: http://www.bodyartforms.com

And if you do decide to stick with what you have listed above. I’d tell you to go with the first choice. Acrylic is a horrid material to put in your ears. Especially if you’re looking at stretching them with the jewellery you’re buying. Good luck!

Question by Loopysha: How do you color resin for jewellery?

Hello,

I am from Germany and there aren´t many people who are working with resin to make jewellery. But I know a lot of people does in the USA so I am asking you:)
Where can I get colors for resin or can I take acrylic paints? How do you color your resin?

Thanks,Maggie

Best answer:

Answer by Diane B.
You don’t generally want to use water-based colorants for 2 part resins…in fact you won’t want to embed anything that has the least bit if moisture or residual moisture either, or to use things like that as inclusions. You might get away with a little bit of water-based material, but it’s just not a good idea because of the problems water can create in resins.

For liquid colorants, you can buy the colorants sold “for resin” in a range of either transparent or opaque colors (online at eBay or other places that sell resin for arts and crafts, or maybe locally at art supply stores or “plastics” stores if you have them, or maybe hobby or craft stores in small kits?).
But you can also use artists’ oil paints (the kind that artists use to paint with on canvas, in tubes– not “enamel” paints/finishes or anything that *must* be cleaned up with paint thinner).
Most oil paints are transparent. If you want your colorants to be opaque though when you’re using oil paints, you’ll need to use at least some White oil paint in the mix which is always opaque; but that probably won’t allow you to get a really dark, deep color if that’s what you want.

You can also use powdered colorants (from things like ground spices to shavings from oil pastels and more), pigments from the art store or even I believe the cake supply store, and other “inclusions” (mica powders, microfine glitters, etc., etc) to color resin.

You might want to check out the page at my site that deals with resins, and for this topic click on the subcategory called *Coloring & Inclusions* (your English is excellent so you shouldn’t have a problem with all the text/info):

http://glassattic.com/polymer/other_materials.htm

And here are also some previous questions at YA where my replies have summaries about other issues re using resins, the different types of resin, etc:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100402061140AAD0jwB

(One of my answers will have a link to Craftster.org where there are a lot of discussions about using resin for jewelry too–you might want to check that out.)

HTH,

Question by laa dee da: i really want my labret pierced but…?

i my labret pierced.. i think it looks so nice. so for all of you whose going to say its gross dont waste your time ready this

so anyways.. im afraid to get it done. not the pain wise. but because i wear retainers everynight…the bottom and the top has a metal wire running across the front.. im afraid the backing of the jewelry will get snagged and possibly tear while im sleeping….

is it safe to get my labret pierced?? i cant not wer the retainers.. ive had my braces of for almost 5 years now and if i go one night without wearign them they feel so tight the next morning!

thank you!

also when you get pierced.. can you get the labrets with bioplast backings??? (i know the dangers of acrylic jewelry.) buta plastic backing? would that be okay?
also what abotu kissing? how long can you not kiss for? I know labrets take 4 to 6 weeks to heal. do i have to wait that long?
i have 9 piercings already and stretched ears. i do not think they are gross. obviosluy since i have so m any. they have aesthetic value to people such as myself.
the wire on the bottom of my teeth is on the upper half.. like i guess 1/4 down form the top. and the wire is always rigth up against the teeth.. so there is no gap.. would putting wax (the wax i have form the dentist stickes really well) so yould a thin layer help?

should i just bring my retainer and show them what it looks like in? so they know how to pierce it.. i know abotu recedding gum line and errosion. i konw the risks with this piercing.

Best answer:

Answer by Sheila
Don’t. Piercings are gross, especially if they indanger you, such as your retainer issue.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Bubbles22: I want piercings but im allergic to ALL metal?

I can’t wear fake metal, nickle, gold, silver, anything.
I have to put coatings of acrylic nail polish on my earrings so I can wear them.
but I really want to get my stomach and tongue pierced, would hypoallergenic jewelry work?

or do you have any suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by essentiallysolo
well it is expensive but get your piercings in platinum, no one that I know of has an allergic response to platinum. Hypoallergenic metal is simply surgical stainless steel, it contains nickel, so I’d be willing to be you would react to it as well.

What do you think? Answer below!
