Question by Kaitlyn: Infection on my stretched earlobe? Help!?

So, I was at a 10g for about 3 weeks using acrylic pinchers. I understood the dangers of acrylic jewelry, but I clean everything properly. I use H20 spray and vitamin E oil daily. My right ear is fine with stretching with no problems, as for my left ear, I pushed the pincher in and it was quite sore for a few days. I couldn’t move the jewelry easily but i continuted to clean the area.

Just a few days ago, it started to bleed a little with puss coming out. I left it there for 2 days and continued my cleaning routine. I was worried about the dangers of a blowout so I took it out. It is now “teared” open and really red. (raw).

-Will it close overnight? (I just did it, i need answers NOW)
-When should i put a 12-10g pincher back in?
-Is there anything i can do to help the healing process go faster?

THANK YOU!!!

Since everybody is different, no one can tell you if your will shrink completely or at all.

You should put metal 10g jewelry in ASAP. Stop using acrylic & the jewelry won’t stick to your ear. Also, cleaning acrylic doesn’t make it sterile, or into a better material. It still sucks for fresh stretches & piercings. If it’s an issue of cost, then you should reconsider stretching all together, because it is not a cheap thing to do right.

Other than not using acrylic to stretch with? Wait more than 3 weeks before stretching larger, and instead of the spray, start doing actual salt soaks. They do a better job at cleaning your piercing than spraying something on them will.

Question by ohshizclarissa: where do people get acrylic jewelry pendants laser cut?

i see a lot of jewelry pendants on handmade shop sites that look like this

http://a294.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/19/l_437269388c30b965f4a320e83c8bc02d.jpg

I have my own little jewelry shop site, but i dont use acrylic cut designs. but i want to.
these people have their designs laser cut for a decent price because they sell them for 10-15 dollars..
i know of lovebites&bruises. but they charge for your design to be cut.. so where can i get my designs cut for a good price?

Best answer:

Answer by Andrew O
I bet they buy a laser cutter and do it themselves. That’s the only way to get the cost low enough unless you do large job lots to drive the unit cost down.

Question by ?Dawn?: Should I get my tongue piercing redone?

I’d had my tongue pierced for 3 weeks. Yesterday I went to get a new barbell because the original was putting alot of pressure on the bottom of my mouth. The place I got it pierced is over an hour away so I went somewhere closer for the new jewelry.
The piercer there, who has over 10 years experience in piercing and a medical background, looked at it and basically told me the guy that did it f***** it up. It was slanted back real far AND off center. She told me that I would never be able to wear the regular bars. Plus I would always have it clicking on my teeth and the pressure because of how bad the slant was. She didn’t want to tell me what to do but suggested I take it out. If I didn’t want to, she would sell me a new bar or give me an acrylic ball for the bottom. But all that would do is protect my teeth. I would still have the other problems. I really want to get it redone, but I can’t see spending that much money on it. What is your opinion? I had her take it out while there.

I have my tongue pierced twice and when it started closing i shoved it back in. It may hurt depending on the person, but it normally isn’t a problem.

Although the site in question may not seem reputable. They’re likely not going to steal your money. It’s too easy to buy at wholesale and resell online like this (no accounting for marketability or web design skills).

If you’re looking for a high quality, consistently stocked, and good customer service base in a body jewellery store online; I recommend: http://www.bodyartforms.com

And if you do decide to stick with what you have listed above. I’d tell you to go with the first choice. Acrylic is a horrid material to put in your ears. Especially if you’re looking at stretching them with the jewellery you’re buying. Good luck!

Question by laa dee da: i really want my labret pierced but…?

i my labret pierced.. i think it looks so nice. so for all of you whose going to say its gross dont waste your time ready this

so anyways.. im afraid to get it done. not the pain wise. but because i wear retainers everynight…the bottom and the top has a metal wire running across the front.. im afraid the backing of the jewelry will get snagged and possibly tear while im sleeping….

is it safe to get my labret pierced?? i cant not wer the retainers.. ive had my braces of for almost 5 years now and if i go one night without wearign them they feel so tight the next morning!

thank you!

also when you get pierced.. can you get the labrets with bioplast backings??? (i know the dangers of acrylic jewelry.) buta plastic backing? would that be okay?
also what abotu kissing? how long can you not kiss for? I know labrets take 4 to 6 weeks to heal. do i have to wait that long?
i have 9 piercings already and stretched ears. i do not think they are gross. obviosluy since i have so m any. they have aesthetic value to people such as myself.
the wire on the bottom of my teeth is on the upper half.. like i guess 1/4 down form the top. and the wire is always rigth up against the teeth.. so there is no gap.. would putting wax (the wax i have form the dentist stickes really well) so yould a thin layer help?

should i just bring my retainer and show them what it looks like in? so they know how to pierce it.. i know abotu recedding gum line and errosion. i konw the risks with this piercing.

I’m trying out some ideas for political jewellery and here I’ve shown five samples of Womens’ Suffrage portraits mounted on to irregular backgrounds.
The portraits are image transferred on to an old 60′s silk scarf and initially backed on to a piece of old blanket for stitching.
These have then been mounted on to various backings and paint effects added.
I have covered the whole set with several layers of acrylic gloss medium.
I shall mount these in various ways.

Question by Danielle C: Is it safe to use Bolts, Buts, Washers and Such for Jewelry?

Hey Guys,

i love to make things with my hands… i mostly love to draw but ever since i started to try making JEWELRY i loved it.

i love to buy all types of beads and use them in funky necklaces and such that i have made out of color strong, fish lining, hemp and such
but i jus LOVE to make jewelry out of random found items.

i have made things from WASHERS , i made stuff from BOLTS and NUTS and like SCREWS and such. but my mom came to me when i showed her a new item… (i barely wear to stuff cause i made it to sell it lol) but she asked “do those have NICKEL in them or LEAD?”

and i didnt know and i have serached and looked up things form sites
and asked what they are made out of and now in days there are made out of STANLESS STEAL or so and nothing harmful but i want to ask and make sure… and some of these things are OLD that i have found….

and i would like to know the DATE and TIME and such on when they
stoped to make things out of lead and nickel. cause even if it is i spray them things with “Clear Acrylic Spray” i put like 1 or 2 coats of it on my things before selling them if it might rust or so

i jus want to be on the safe side and make sure of this.

Question by Nicole: Is it possible to gauge the cartilage on the upper-part of the ear?

I ask because I have an allergy to metal earrings, and so I either have to wear expensive gold jewelry, or none at all. I’d like to gauge the piercing there because I’ve gauged my first piercings in order to wear acrylic and bioplast and had no reactions to it and its relatively inexpensive. I’m guessing it is possible, but how should I go about doing it? Any advice is helpful, so thanks ahead of time! :)

Best answer:

Answer by Lava
It’s possible, you just have to be MUCH more careful with cartilage, and you need to wait at least a year between sizes. My cartilage will accept one stretch every few years. Often I will stretch up, and then downsize for a few months before stretching it back. It seems to do better when I do this a few times, usually by the third attempt there’s no lingering tenderness that you have on the first try.
Know that at a certain point it’s better to consider dermal punching than further stretching, since pressure becomes a factor with cartilage in larger sizes.
And you may want to try titanium, since it’s very good for sensitive piercings. My ears hate even expensive implant grade steel, but love titanium.

“Life Ring”~ Recycled plastics and metal ~ 5 of 6 photos

 Acrylic Jewelry

By Mary Anne Enriquez / Urban Woodswalker, 2010

I plan to wear this ring to art openings, and special functions…it fits 4 of my fingers perfectly.

The ring is very comfortable to wear, and creates public conversations about the state of our environment, and the plastic debris harming the oceans. This ring is part of an entire fashion ensemble I am creating called "Mary’s Garden." The ensemble will be made out of 90% or more recycled materials….mostly plastics.

Ring measures 7 cm tall x 6 cm wide.

Nothing purchased…everything found, or in my studio.
I created this ring out of the following materials:

1 large soup can aluminum pull tab
a vintage yellow cap from a bead holder tube
1 green PET soda bottle
1 clear PET soda bottle
1 red coffee stirrer straw,
industrial adhesive
sharpie markers
metallic acrylic paint

Question by nicole n: Can I leave a taper in as jewelry?

I’m in the process of gauging my ear lobes (I’m at an 8g now) and all the information I’ve received about the process and after care is pretty clear. Except I have gotten VERY different info on whether or not I can leave the tapers in as jewelry until it is time to size up, so can someone help me out with this please? I’m not using acrylic tapers, they are surgical stainless steel if that helps at all?

Oh, and please don’t tell me I shouldn’t gauge my ears! It’s as old as ear piercing itself and I think it’s a beautiful thang! ;o)
The tapers did come with the o rings which is why I couldn’t understand people telling me I couldn’t wear them like jewelry? But I haven’t had any problems with them… so thank you everyone for their answers, I really appreciate it! I’m going to continue wearing them until my goal size THEN I will invest in some plugs lol :o )
